Project. Kitchen Bench

So we have a super small eating area in our kitchen. It's a big problem for someone who really likes to host!  We also have this awesome old table we bought from an old neighbor. The problem is it is just too big for our space. I have been web searching for ideas for a long time now. I think we are close to finally fixing our problem.

I think the answer is a kitchen bench and a new round table. I just love some of these spaces. Now we just have to make some decisions (which is easier said than done for me and Alex)!

Ready for Summer

Busted out the chalk and the sandals arrived! Time for summer to start (I won't remind myself that it's still March)!

P.S. Alex thinks it's silly to match, but Addie LOVES it. I think I'll try to maximize this as much as I can, for I know it won't last.

Wednesday Wishes

Felicity the shy fox

Tee for Addie. The girl is REALLY into Swipper the Fox from the TV show Dora the Explorer. She is constantly telling Dex not to "Swipe her toys". She goes "Dexter no swipping. Dexter no swipping. Dexter no swipping!". You must, of course, repeat it three times like Dora does.

Blooms. Hyacinth

Spring is here! Surprisingly enough, it actually feels like spring in Madison too!

Hyacinth is one of my favorite spring bulbs. It comes in a variety of pinks, periwinkle, and white. The small blooms can be used in corsages and boutonnieres. Let's not forget that they smell sooo heavenly!

kiddos. drool.

Dexter has been perfecting his drooling skills lately. When he heard his cousins Will and Seth
were into drooling too, he insisted I make some more bandanas for them too.

Film. Incendies

Alex has been in a media club for years. It is a bunch of guys that get together to discuss a book, an album, and  a movie. Often times I have no interest in their picks, but sometimes it uncovers a good find.

This month's pick for a movie was Incendies. I usually don't like to go into a movie not knowing anything about it. I kind of like to know what I'm getting myself into. I am glad I watched with an untainted mind this time.

Incendies is a French film about twins who are requested, upon reading their mother's will, to deliver two envelopes to their father and brother, who are both unknown. The quest leads the twins to the Middle East where they slowly uncover their mother's horrific past.

This is not a movie for the faint of heart. It is a very graphic, yet captivating. After watching it, my mind could not rest. Unfortunately for me, it was also daylight savings in a few short hours!

Incendies was a story so far from my own. A story so rich in pain, yet full of love. I love films that make me stop and think about how big our world is and how small I am. In the midst of the Eat This Book challenge that my church is going through, my mind drifted to stories of the Old Testement. The stories are much the same. A world unlike my own. A world filled with suffering. How do we handle a world like this?

I am so glad that there is One who we can always lean on. I am glad that I am His. It is the only place true peace can be found. He has a plan, even if we can't fully understand it.

Trash & Treasure

My absolute favorite resale was this Saturday. For 22 years, a church in Madison has been hosting this sale to raise funds for their high school summer mission trips. Four years ago, a co-worker of Alex's told us about this sale. Every year we have come home with a bunch of treasures and never any trash!

This year Alex took one for the team and stayed home with the kiddos, while I went with my friend Becca. After a quick stop at Starbucks, I arrived at the church to get in line at 7:15am. Thankfully it wasn't too cold and they also let us in a little early!

Becca and I both made off with some really great deals! Becca got this amazing dresser for $10 that I am secretly wishing I had grabbed. I came away with a tricycle, a painting easel, an ottoman, a tool box, a record, a milk glass lamp (that makes me think of Mariel), an old step stool, some clothes for Addie, a pair snow pants, and a wooden abacus all for $36!

I have some big plans for some of my new finds!
-I am going to recover the ottoman.
-I want to find a new lamp shade to replace the ugly one the lamp came with. Don't worry, though, I have plans for the ugly old shade as well! Some kind of upcycle like this one for Dexter's room.
-I had wanted to use the stool to display some plants, but Addie has claimed it for her room. I fear she will always see it as hers now. Maybe one day I'll get it back.
- Use the old tool box to store books in the living room.
- Find some way to display the awesome record cover I found.
- Paint the art easel with some chalkboard paint to give it a new look.

I just love a good resale!
